The process

The process

From Edelrid press release:

"Faced with the increasing environmental effects of global manufacturing, Edelrid, in 2009, partnered with Bluesign to become the first rope manufacturer in the world to change their production and manufacturing processes to meet the tough demands of the Bluesign system."

Rope manufacturing, by traditional methods, especially the dyeing process, is incredibly water excessive and chemically intensive. By converting rope production to the bluesign system, Edelrid has been able to achieve 89% decrease in water usage, 62% reduction in CO2, 63% decrease in energy, and 63% reduction in chemical usage.

"At Edelrid we constantly strive to reduce our environmental impact. In 2016 we made the next step towards a sustainable future, by introducing the Boa Eco 9.8mm rope, a robust all around rope whose sheath is made up of 100% high-quality yarns leftover from production. The Boa Eco represents for all of us a further step towards a sustainable future.

As climbers, we walk on receding glaciers, swim in rivers that grow smaller each year and climb on rock faces that are falling apart due to shifting weather patterns. The companies we choose to work with and the products we use are a vital part of the equation towards a sustainable future."
